NIFTY
Nifty is a unique program that may be used as either a pop-up Help system
or a DOS menu. It combines an elegantly simple and attractive user interface
(much appreciated by the inexperienced user) with a consistent, flexible means
of set-up (benefiting the system integrator). Nifty is designed to help corpo-
rate information managers and independent consultants make computing as pain-
less as possible for keyboard entry personnel. One advantage over separate
help and menu systems is that, with Nifty, you need learn only a single prog-
ram. Another is that Nifty is just plain SIMPLE.
As a Help system, Nifty can, at the touch of a key or two, provide the
user with on-line assistance on any subject. Since the Help system is memory-
resident, it may be accessed from within nearly any other application. Capable
of nested multi-level help, Nifty can display help files of any length (though
you'll find the shorter, more concise ones to be preferable).
Simplicity is also the rule when Nifty is used as a Menu system. A single
keystroke can execute any program or read any file on the computer. And few
menu systems provide such effortless and flexible screen-creation facilities.
If you know a computer novice, you know a candidate for using this handy
product. And if you know what paths and file extensions are, you know enough
to set up a Nifty Help or Menu system, yourself. The program requires an IBM-
compatible PC with a hard disk and at least 128K of memory.
Using the program involves copying all the Nifty files to a NIFTY direc-
tory on your hard disk, then logging into that directory and entering "NIFTY H"
(for the pop-up Help system) or "NIFTY M" (for the Menu system) at the DOS
prompt. You might want to use Nifty to read the remainder of this documenta-
tion, since it's been broken into conveniently-sized files that can be easily
accessed by the program. Other help files and menu screens may be designed
with GRAPHED.EXE, a graphics editor that is included in the Nifty package.
As a Help system, Nifty uses about 50K of memory; as a Menu system, it
requires about 55K. When you register, you may request two specialized ver-
sions of the program, one for a Help system and one for a Menu system, each
requiring about 8-12K less than the combination product you now have.
If you find the program useful, please register. A registration form is
found in a file called NIFTY.FRM. It may be printed with the command, "TYPE
NIFTY.FRM >PRN". Thanks.
By the way, this is first-generation version of the program. If you have
any suggestions for further versions, don't hesitate to call Integra Computing
at (404) 973-3586.
